A region that behaves like six separate markets
North of the river you can talk about London as one thing and get away with it. Down here you cannot. Wandsworth and Bexley are twenty miles apart with almost nothing in common: different housing stock, different price points, different reasons for calling an electrician. A homeowner in Richmond ringing about a rewire and a landlord in Croydon ringing about an EICR deadline are not the same customer.
Search treats them separately too. Results shift with the person's location, so an electrician based in Merton simply does not appear for someone standing in Bromley. No amount of writing fixes that. What borough pages do is catch the searches that happen when somebody types the place name themselves, which is what people do when the map has not offered them anyone they like.
The practical version: pick the three or four boroughs where you genuinely want the work, give each one a page that could only be about that borough, and let the rest sit in a service area list. Twelve thin pages is worse than four good ones.

The Croydon page argues about standing out among 277 competitors. The Richmond page argues about a smaller, wealthier market where the referral matters more than the ranking. Same trade, different case.
Rewire content weighted properly
Victorian and Edwardian terraces run from Wandsworth through Lewisham into Bromley, which means full and partial rewires are the highest-value recurring job in this region. That deserves the strongest service page on the site.
Landlord compliance where the stock is
Lambeth and Southwark carry heavy private rented density. If that is your work, the EICR page leads and the site speaks to agents, not homeowners.
Realistic coverage claims
Claiming all twelve boroughs when you work in three is transparent to a customer and useless to Google. We would rather write three pages that convince.
Questions from south London electricians
Why is south London the hardest cluster to rank across?
Because it is twelve boroughs wide and nobody is central to it. An electrician in Sutton is nineteen miles from an electrician in Bexley, and Google will show each of them to a different half of the region. There is no single set of results to win, which is exactly why individual borough pages matter here more than anywhere else.
Croydon has far more web design search volume than the other boroughs. Why?
Croydon is a commercial centre in its own right, not a residential suburb, so the searches include businesses looking for agencies rather than only homeowners looking for trades. It does not mean more electrical work. It does mean the search results there behave more like central London than like Bexley.
I work across four boroughs. Do I need four pages?
You need a page for each one you actively want more work in. Four is normal. What does not work is one page that lists all four, because a page mentioning four places competes properly for none of them.
Does the tram network change anything?
For your customers, no. For you, slightly: Croydon, Merton and Sutton are unusually well connected to each other, so an electrician based near the tram corridor can realistically cover all three at speed. That is worth saying on the site, because it is a genuine advantage over a competitor coming across from the east.
Is there much landlord work down here?
A great deal, and it is spread differently to north or east London. Lambeth and Southwark carry dense rented stock, while Bromley and Bexley skew towards owner-occupied family housing where rewires and consumer unit upgrades dominate. The service pages should lean whichever way your actual work does.
