SEO for electricians

SEO for electricians is the work of making your business the one that gets found when a homeowner searches for a rewire or a landlord searches for an EICR. In a market with 5,735 electricians within 40km of central London, being findable and being chosen are two different problems. We work on both.

SEO for electricians is the work of getting your business found when a homeowner searches for a rewire or a landlord searches for an EICR, on Google and now inside AI assistants. It is three things: a complete Google Business Profile, a page for each service and area, and reviews gathered steadily. UK agencies charge £300 to £1,000 a month for it. Ours is £497.

What the work actually is

Google Business Profile, done properly

Correct primary category, service list, service areas, photographs, and details that match your website to the character. Profile inconsistency is the most common reason a local pack ranking never arrives.

A page for every service

Rewires, EICRs, consumer units, EV chargers, fault finding. Google cannot rank you for a service you have not given a page to.

Service area pages that are not clones

Each area page carries its own local detail. Near-identical location pages are the fastest way to get an entire cluster ignored.

Schema markup

LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage on every relevant page, so search engines read your site as structured facts rather than prose.

Citations and consistency

Name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear. Unglamorous, and it moves local rankings more than most things that sound more impressive.

Built to be quoted by AI

Answer-first paragraphs, question-phrased headings, specific figures with dates. This is what gets you named in an AI answer rather than summarised out of it.

What actually happens, month by month

No agency publishes this because it makes the first two months look slow. They are slow. Anyone promising movement in week three is either lucky or describing a term nobody searches.

01Month one: the profile and the foundationsGoogle Business Profile completed and verified, categories and service areas set, Search Console connected, the site audited and the obvious technical faults fixed. Almost nothing visible happens.Groundwork
02Months two and three: pages and reviewsA page written for each service you want more of, and each area you genuinely cover. A review request that goes out after every job rather than when somebody remembers. Local rankings usually start moving here.First movement
03Months four to six: the map packThis is where most of the value lands for a trade business. Three slots, most of the clicks, and proximity plus reviews decide it more than anything on your website.Where the money is
04Months six to twelve: the competitive terms"Electrician" plus your borough, and the service terms with real volume. On a new domain this is the slowest part and the part most people give up before reaching. The long game

The three slots on the map, and what decides them

Relevance

How well your Google Business Profile matches what was typed. Primary category set to Electrician, the services listed individually, and the description written in the words customers use rather than the words the trade uses.

Proximity

How close you are to the person searching. This is the one you cannot control and the reason nobody ranks across a whole borough. It is also why service area pages matter: they catch the searches that happen outside your radius.

Prominence

Reviews above all, gathered steadily and replied to. There is no magic number. What matters is having more than the businesses currently above you, and a pattern that looks like work rather than like a purchase.

Two of those three sit outside your website. That is the honest position, and it is why a site sold to you as "SEO" with no mention of your Google Business Profile is selling you the smaller half.

What we do not do

Buy links

Paid link schemes breach Google's spam policies and the risk sits with your domain, not with the agency that sold them. Citations and genuine local listings are a different thing and we do those.

Guarantee rankings

Nobody controls Google's results. A guarantee is either a term nobody searches for or a refund clause dressed up as confidence.

Publish for the sake of volume

Weekly blog posts about "5 signs you need an electrician" do nothing. A small number of pages that answer real questions properly beats a large number that answer none.

Mark up our own reviews for stars

Self-serving review markup breaches Google's structured data guidance. Competitors do it and show stars in the results. The legitimate route is your Google Business Profile.

How AI search changes the job

An AI Overview now sits above the normal results on most of the terms an electrician cares about, including "SEO for electricians" itself.

The mechanics are different from ranking. An assistant does not list ten results, it names two or three businesses and summarises an answer. What gets a page named is being the clearest source of a specific fact: a price, a timescale, a rule, a definition stated plainly in the first sentence under a heading phrased as the question somebody asked.

That is why the work looks slightly odd if you are used to older SEO advice. Fewer keywords, more direct answers. Specific numbers with dates attached rather than "competitive pricing". Questions as headings. A page that reads as though written for a person who asked a question, because increasingly that is exactly what is reading it.

It is also cheap to get right at the point a site is built and expensive to retrofit, which is the main argument for doing it now rather than in two years when every competitor has caught up.

Questions about SEO for electricians

How long before SEO works for an electrician?

Local rankings usually move first, in six to twelve weeks, because the local pack depends heavily on your Google Business Profile and proximity rather than on domain authority. Competitive service terms take longer, typically four to eight months on a new site.

Is SEO worth it when I already pay for Checkatrade?

They do different jobs. A directory sells you an enquiry that three other electricians also bought, so you compete on price. SEO builds an asset where the enquiry is yours alone. Most electricians run both for a while and taper the directory spend as the site picks up.

What is AI search optimisation and does it matter yet?

It is structuring content so that ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and similar tools can quote you when someone asks them to recommend an electrician. It matters now because those answers name a small number of businesses and most electrician websites are not built to be quoted. Getting in early is far cheaper than catching up.

Do I need to write blog posts?

Not for the sake of it. What works for electricians is a small number of pages that answer real questions properly: what a rewire costs, what an EICR code means, whether a consumer unit needs upgrading. Two good pages beat twenty thin ones.

Can you guarantee a first page ranking?

No, and anyone who does is either guessing or picking a term nobody searches for. What we can commit to is the work: the pages, the structure, the schema, the profile and the citations.

Do you need access to my website to do SEO?

Yes, and to your Google Business Profile and Search Console. If we built the site, that is already in place.

How much does SEO cost in the UK?

For a local trade business, £300 to £1,000 a month is the normal range, and anything under about £250 a month rarely buys enough hours to move anything. Ours is £497 a month. The more useful question is what the money buys: if the answer is a monthly report and nothing else, the price is irrelevant because nothing is being produced.

Will AI replace electricians?

No. Nobody has built a machine that can crawl a loft, trace a borrowed neutral or sign a certificate carrying legal liability. What AI is already changing is how customers find you: a growing share of people now ask an assistant who to call rather than scrolling search results. That rewards businesses whose sites answer questions plainly and state their credentials in a way a machine can read, and it penalises sites that are a brochure with a phone number.
